Course Specifications

The Course Specifications highlight the mandatory high-level skills and knowledge to be covered in the Course.

The detailed information about the Course comes through later development stages but the Course Specifications outline the subject skills, knowledge and understanding that a learner will cover in the Course and which will be assessed at the end of the Course. They also outline how it will be assessed, eg question paper/assignment.

The Course Specification for each subject incorporates the previously published Course Rationale and Summary which includes the reason for having the Course in that particular subject, the skills and knowledge learners will develop and the Course outline including Unit titles.

In the new Courses and Units there will be a focus on the additional skills that learners will develop through doing the Course such as skills for learning, skills for life and skills for work.

The next stage of development is the Unit specifications which define the mandatory requirements for each Unit.

Course Specifications have been published for National 2, National 3, National 4 and National 5 and Higher.
