Course Rationales and Summaries

The Course Rationale and Summary documents are the blueprints for all the new qualifications and outline their proposed content and aims and purposes.

Further stages of development will give details of Courses, Units, assessment and support materials.

The Course Rationales and Summaries give a preview of what will come later in the development process and are published as stand-alone documents to allow people to give feedback, before they are then incorporated into the Course Specifications.

The Course Rationales identify the skills and knowledge learners will develop.

The Course Summaries detail how Courses will be structured. They provide a brief description of each Unit in the Course and what is required to achieve the Course.

The Course Rationales and Summaries for Access 2, Access 3, National 4, National 5 and Higher have been incorporated into the Course Specifications.

Draft Course Rationales and Summaries for the new Advanced Higher were published in March 2012. Please see links below or use the subject drop down list to access these documents.
