SQA recently held a number of Curriculum for Excellence (CfE) events for head teachers and senior management teams from across Scotland.
Seven events - in Glasgow, Dumfries, Inverness, Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh and Peebles - have taken place to support the roll out of the new National Qualifications in schools and colleges.
The implementation events updated senior managers from schools, colleges and local authorities on a number of key topics regarding the development of the new National Qualifications, which are being developed by SQA as part of the Scottish Government's Curriculum for Excellence programme, and gave them the opportunity to give their feedback on the progress made so far.
SQA has a team of specialists to visit schools, colleges and local authorities to explain the new qualifications and respond to feedback from stakeholders. The team is organised by geographical location.
Heading up the CfE Liaison Team is Jacqui Murray, who appreciates that teachers want a point of contact they can approach for advice and guidance. She said: “My team and I are visiting every school and college in Scotland to explain the development and delivery of the new National Qualifications, answer questions that teachers have and collect feedback to gauge what further support they need to deliver CfE.
“Now that the development programme for the new National Qualifications is well under way, we wanted to give senior management teams in schools and colleges around the country a collective update on progress in areas such as quality assurance and the new qualifications development and give them the chance to discuss the changes with their colleagues.
“Our events provided an opportunity for staff at schools and colleges in each local area to meet and share good practice. They also allowed teachers to get to know their SQA Liaison Manager.
“As CfE is rolled out we want to identify the hot topics and provide support around these areas. And it’s not just teachers that are affected, as administration staff will have to understand aspects of the new qualifications, such as entering student data on the computer system.
“We want to encourage everyone to get involved and have their say,” said Jacqui. “It’s all about working in partnership.”
Parents and carers can also find more information about the new National Qualifications here.
