PDA in Managing Projects and Business Processes at SCQF level 9
The Professional Development Award (PDA) in Managing Projects and Business Processes at SCQF level 9 is designed to enable managers to develop and achieve competence in project management within the context of the overall activities of the organisation. It has been designed in particular to meet the needs of managers who are not designated as project managers as such but who may be required, as part of their managerial role, to take responsibility for projects.
This qualification will be available through colleges and training providers.
Why deliver this qualification
The PDA Managing Projects and Business Processes is part of the SVQ/NVQ framework and is, therefore, work based. Candidates will be supported by a qualified assessor and can work through their qualification at their own pace. However, it is likely that assessment plans between assessor and candidate will agree target dates for completion of specific parts of each Unit.
Some features of the PDA are:
- it is a nationally-recognised qualification
- it can be achieved at work
- there are no formal entry requirements
- it provides recognition of managing projects
- it enables progression within the Management S/NVQ framework
- it enhances career prospects
Who does this qualification suit
The main target groups for the PDA Managing Projects and Business Processes are people who are currently employed in management posts, predominantly at first line, team leading and middle management levels.
There are no pre-entry qualifications for this PDA. Entry will be at the discretion of the centre. However, due to the nature of the qualification, candidates should be in employment within an oral health care environment. In addition, candidates should have an adequate level of Communication which could be evidenced by achievement of, eg English at Intermediate 2 (SCQF level 5) or above.
Successful candidates can gain membership of the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) which means that they can become part of the professional community of managers and can benefit from the development opportunities that this can bring.
Candidates who complete this PDA will have gained the following:
- one of the seven Units of the full SVQ 3 in Management at SCQF level 7
- two of the eight Units of the full SVQ 4 in Management at SCQF level 9
Centres with devolved authority are eligible to seek approval through their own internal approval process.
Centres without devolved authority will have to come forward for approval and should contact the Business Development Team for guidance in completing the combined CA1/SA1 form.
Assessors and verifiers must be able to meet SQA's general requirements as outlined in the guide to approval.
How to assess
As this PDA is based on SVQ Units, the assessment is governed by the Management Assessment Strategy.
Candidates will gather evidence of their performance through normal workplace activity, in line with the requirements of the PDA. This evidence will be assessed.
Usual workplace assessment methods will apply, such as use of observation, examining of work products, testimonial evidence from witnesses, Accreditation of Prior Learning, etc.
