Who does this qualification suit
This Unit is intended for candidates who expect to take up an aseptic checking role within a pharmacy aseptic facility. It prepares them for this role by providing the underpinning knowledge they require.
Entry is at the discretion of the centre, although it is highly recommended that the candidates have a qualification recognised by the regulating body for pharmacy practice, eg SVQ Pharmacy Services level 3 and/or NC Pharmacy Services. It is beneficial that candidates have work experience as a pharmacy technician as this would allow them to appreciate the responsibility and achievement this Unit will provide, and also give candidates opportunities to reflect on this responsibility. Candidates should also have good communication skills and problem solving abilities.
There is no direct progression to Group Awards from this Unit. However, candidates could be signposted to the HNC in Pharmacy Services Development and Management.
Centres with devolved authority are eligible to seek approval through their own internal approval process.
Centres without devolved authority will have to come forward for approval and should contact the Business Development Team for guidance in completing the combined CA1/SA1 form.
Assessors and verifiers must be able to meet SQA's general requirements as outlined in the guide to approval.
How to assess
Assessment will consist of a combination of candidate reports and observation of practical assignments.
