This award acknowledges candidates who have demonstrated commitment to Lifelong Learning in achieving SQA qualifications. This award is sponsored by CBI Scotland.
Doug is now manager of a resource centre, though he left school in 1976 with no qualifications.
Doug began his working life in retail, attending Dundee College on day-release for his SNC in Business Studies. He then worked in the bar trade for ten years. Starting a family, Doug decided to change his work pattern. He began work as a nursing auxiliary, also training as a health care support worker.
Doug then joined Angus Council Social Work and Health as a day centre officer. He completed a PDA in Learning Disabilities and became depute manager and then was promoted to manager. Despite challenging personal circumstances he also managed to gain his SVQ Level 3 in Care. Since then, Doug has completed an SVQ Level 4 in Health and Social Care, an ILM course in Management, a post-graduate module in Profound and Complex Needs, and two SVQ Leading Change Units.
Doug now manages the SVQ programme in the Learning Disabilities service at Angus Council.
