SQA Champion Award

LOGO: Youthlink Scotland

This award recognises staff in centres who champion SQA qualifications. It is for teachers, lecturers, trainers and support staff — anyone who supports candidates to achieve their full potential. This award is sponsored by YouthLink Scotland.

As Community Learning and Development Worker for the Stranraer area, Linda supports a team of youth workers.

Realising there was a need for accredited training, in 2004 Linda got involved in creating the SVQ in Youth Work. She has helped develop the SVQ systems and documentation, has actively promoted the benefits of the qualification, and has achieved her A1 Assessor Award, a part-time degree and the Internal Verifier qualification, all in her own time while supporting candidates to complete the Youth Work SVQ.

The result of Linda’s input shows in the candidates. According to those she has supported, Linda ‘was always there to answer questions or concerns I had’, ‘worked hard to keep me motivated’, and ‘was always willing to accommodate me in her diary’.

Youth workers have more confidence and delivery is improved. In the words of her Manager, Linda’s work has ‘changed the face of youth work in Wigtownshire’.
