SQA and CACHE have signed a partnership agreement, launching SQA Functional Skills qualifications as part of the CACHE Apprenticeship package. The partnership brings SQA together with CACHE, the awarding organisation of choice for learners and employers in care, health and education.
The collaboration will draw on the considerable strengths of both organisations; excellence in qualification standards and in customer service. SQA and CACHE work across the UK with an extensive range of employers and further education colleges.
Dr Richard Dorrance, Chief Executive Officer of CACHE, said: "This landmark partnership allows our customers to continue to enjoy the excellent range of CACHE Apprenticeships, offered through our status as the only specialist awarding organisation for the care, health and education sectors.
“Apprenticeships provide learners with a recognised and established way to obtain first-hand knowledge of a particular job role, resulting in enhanced employability. A key factor for success is the completion of Functional Skills, and we are confident that the SQA qualification is second-to-none.”
Dr Janet Brown, SQA Chief Executive, said: “We are delighted to be working together with CACHE and that our Functional Skills Qualifications will form an integral part of their apprenticeship packages. This agreement recognises the quality of SQA qualifications and the benefits they can bring to CACHE customers and learners”.
SQA Functional Skills qualifications in English, Mathematics and ICT at Levels 1 and 2 equip learners with the basic practical skills required in everyday life, education and the workplace. As of 01 October 2012, Functional Skills replaced Key Skills as a mandatory component of all Apprenticeship frameworks.
