Level 2 and 3 NVQ Diplomas in Barbering

The levels 2 and 3 Diplomas in Barbering are suitable for those who are interested in cutting and styling the hair of men and boys. Learners may be working in the Hairdressing and Barbering industry, or attending college on a full/part time basis.

These qualifications form part of the level 2 and level 3 Apprenticeship for England and Wales. They are designed to develop the skills and knowledge required to work within the Hairdressing and Barbering industry, for example use of materials, tools and techniques.

SQA also offer Functional Skills which are a main component of the Apprenticeship framework.

Who does this qualification suit

These qualifications are suitable for adult returners or learners who are working within the hairdressing and barbering industry: for level 2 as salon assistants/juniors and level 3 as junior stylists.

Progression

These qualifications provide the opportunity to progress to further learning, professional qualifications or more senior positions within the Hairdressing and Barbering industry.

Information regarding the approval process is available from SQA’s Business Development team.

How to assess

These qualifications are designed to be assessed in the workplace, or in conditions of a realistic working environment for example, Hairdressing salons, private training providers and colleges of further education.

These qualifications will be assessed by observation, projects, written/oral questions, online assessment for mandatory essential knowledge and understanding through SQA SOLAR.

Access

Learners should ideally be working within the hairdressing industry as salon assistants/juniors. These qualifications may also be delivered to full time college students and adult returners.

These qualifications require the learner to complete mandatory and optional Units.
