Identifying Potential Qualifications For Development

During Session 2003–2004, SQA consulted with all colleges regarding their individual HN portfolios. As a result of this consultation, all current HNCs and HNDs have been categorised, in principle, in one of the following groups:

• no longer required and will be allowed to lapse
• a consortium development, ie SQA will manage the review of these qualifications in partnership with the delivering centres
• a specialist collaborative development, ie a small number of centres will manage the review of these qualifications, supported by SQA
• a specialist single-centre development, ie the college will manage the review of these qualifications (considered to be unique to local or niche market) supported by SQA

SQA has a list of all consortium developments and specialist collaborative developments on our website. Specialist single centre developments are kept on a spreadsheet by SQA. All qualifications regardless of how they are developed are the responsibility of an SQA Qualifications Manager.
