Item Writer and Item Checker Opportunities

We are recruiting additional Item Writers and Item Checkers for the following qualifications:

Computing at National 5, new Higher and Advanced Higher (ISDD)

Engineering Science at National 5, new Higher and Advanced Higher

Graphic Communications at National 5, new Higher and Advanced Higher

The Item Writer and Item Checker role profiles provide details of the contract specification, selection criteria and key performance measures which give full details of the roles.

Item Writers will require up to 4 days of release and will also be required to undertake duties in their own time. An application form for Item Writer is available for download and must be submitted with the Item Writer Release Form.

Item Checkers will require up to 3 days to complete duties and be required to undertake duties in their own time. An application form for Item Writers is available for download.

Training for both roles will be provided.

Principal Assessor – Advanced Higher Classical Studies

We are currently inviting applications for the role of Principal Assessor for Advanced Higher Classical Studies.

A Principal Assessor is responsible for ensuring all duties and tasks associated with externally set/assessed Course assessments are undertaken within the conditions, timeframes and arrangements set by SQA. Their primary role is to lead, support and work with a team of SQA appointees, including interaction with different groups to ensure consistent application of national standards and to ensure the subject specific integrity of their teams’ decision-making in relation to the externally set/assessed Course assessment arrangements.

The Principal Assessor role profile provides full details of the contract specification, the selection criteria and key performance measures for the role. Applicants should use this information to assist with the their application.

The Principal Assessors will require approximately 8 days release per year. Duties in own time will also be required. An application form for Principal Assessor is available for download and must be submitted with the Principal Assessor Reference/Release form.

Interviews will be held on Friday 24 April 2015 in our Glasgow offices. Should the successful applicant be available to shadow procedures this year then this ‘training’ will be arranged.

Advanced Higher - Item Bank Leader Opportunities

We currently have opportunities for an Item Bank Leader for the new Advanced Higher qualifications in: Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics

(Please note that the IBL in Chemistry may oversee the Item Bank at Higher and National 5)

An Item Bank Leader is responsible for the management of the Item Bank to ensure sufficient items/questions are available to produce question papers, monitor the production and checking of items/questions, and the supporting marking instructions under the direction of the Principal Assessor. The Item Bank Leader role profile provides details of the contract specification, selection criteria and key performance measures. Additional support and training, if required, will be provided to support the successful applicant.

The Item Bank Leader role will require a combination of release and duties in own time. We anticipate a release requirement of up to 5 days per year.

Senior Team Leader – Environmental Science – National 5

We have a new opportunity for a Senior Team Leader in Environmental Science at National 5 who will commence duties in April 2015.

SQA recognises the pivotal role that the STL will play in supporting the Principal Assessor in the new National 5 Qualifications in Environmental Science. Previous experience in a leadership role will be beneficial to the applicant.
