SVQ 2 and 3 Court Operations at SCQF 5 and 6

The Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQs) in

have been developed by Skills for Justice in partnership with the Scottish Court Service alongside Northern Ireland and DCA and are intended for people in the Justice Sector.

They provide candidates with the skills that they will need for employment and/or further study. These SVQs will develop skills to enable individuals to be more proficient in working in the Court Service.

This qualification is available through employers.

Why deliver this qualification

The SVQs in Court Operations at levels 5 and 6, and Court and Prosecution Administration at level 5 are nationally recognised awards accredited by the Scottish Qualifications Authority, and are designed for employees working in posts as Clerks of Court, Court Officers, Administration Officers etc

Candidates in the SVQ 2 Court Operations at level 5 can progress to SVQ 3 Court Operations at level 6.

Who does this qualification suit

These SVQs are designed to be assessed in the workplace. Examples of the settings or centres in which the SVQs are likely to be delivered include courts, tribunals and offices. The candidates taking this qualification may be working as clerks of court, court officers or administrative officers. They will take this qualification for a variety of reasons: to support training given to them by their employer; to gain promotion; to prove their job competence; and/or for personal development.

Access

Entry is at the discretion of the centre. No prior qualifications are required to undertake this qualification, although experience in, or knowledge of, the sector would be an advantage.

Progression

Achieving one of these qualifications should provide opportunities to progress within the Court Service.

Approval

Centres with devolved authority for approval should use their own internal approval process.

Centres without devolved authority require to come forward for approval and should contact SQAs Business Development Team for guidance.

Assessors and verifiers must be able to meet SQAs general requirements for technical/occupational competence as outlined in the Systems and Qualification Approval Guide

  • The SVQ 2 Court Operations at SCQF level 5 consists of five mandatory Units and two optional Units.

SVQ 3 Court Operations
Group Award: GH0X 23 (64 KB)

  • The SVQ 3 Court Operations at SCQF level 6 consists of seven mandatory Units and one optional Unit.
