SVQ Electrical Installation

The Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ) level 3 in Electrical Installation at SCQF level 7 allows candidates to demonstrate competence in job related skills in their particular area of work and expertise. This includes applying Health and Safety and Environmental Legislation in the Building Services Engineering Sector, establishing and maintaining relationships in the Building Services Engineering Sector, coordinating a work site in the Building Services Engineering Sector, installing enclosures for electrical cables, conductors and wiring systems, installing and connecting electrical cables, conductors, wiring systems and equipment, inspecting and testing electrical systems and equipment, commissioning electrical systems and equipment, identifying and rectifying faults in electrical systems and equipment, and maintaining electrical systems and equipment.

This qualification has been designed in partnership with SummitSkills to ensure relevance to the sector.

SVQs are based on National Occupational Standards. SQA works in partnership with other organisations to ensure that National Occupational Standards (NOS) are relevant to the current and future needs of Scottish industries.

This qualification is available through employers and training providers.

Important information: As of 1 September 2016, all SVQs with an established SCQF level no longer include the SVQ level in their titles. Please note that our web pages and documents will gradually be updated over time as the SVQs are reviewed, so may still contain the existing titles. Why deliver this qualification

The SVQ in Electrical Installation at SCQF level 7 is a re-accredited qualification. Upon successful completion, learners will gain an international recognised qualification which guarantees that they have the skills, knowledge and abilities required to carry out their role successfully.  Employers will also benefit from their employees being proficient.

The SVQ is offered in the workplace. As assessment is carried out in the workplace this minimises any time learners would need to be away from their work.

Who does this qualification suit

This SVQ is suitable for:

  • learners who may have just left school
  • individuals who are currently in employment and who wish to obtain a formal qualification

Access

Entry is at the discretion of the centre.

Candidates should be in a job or placement where they are carrying out relevant tasks and responsibilities which allow then to gather the required evidence.

Progression

The level 3 award could provide progression to:

  • degree level study at a higher education institution
  • employment in the Electrical Installation sector, perhaps as an Electrician

Approval

Centres will have to come forward for approval and should contact SQA’s Business Development Team for guidance.

Lapsing

Qualification Structure

This qualification is now in its lapsing period and will finish on 31.07.17. Centres should note:

  • The qualification will be deleted from the relevant catalogue
  • The qualification’s content and delivery tools will remain on SQA’s website until it reaches its finish date at which point they will be removed and archived
  • No new centres may be approved to offer the qualification
  • No candidates can be entered for the qualification
