2013 Star Awards

Kaye Adams

Learners, colleges and employers from across Scotland gathered in Glasgow on Friday 8 November to hear a host of success stories at the 2013 Scottish Qualifications Authority Star Awards.

The glittering ceremony, held at Glasgow Clyde College’s Anniesland Campus for the third year running, were hosted by TV and radio presenter Kaye Adams and supported by a number of sponsors, including Hodder Gibson, Skills Development Scotland, the SCQF Partnership, CBI Scotland, Youthlink Scotland and Education Scotland.

The Fellowship

This year the SQA Fellowship was given to two individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to education and training in Scotland. 

Christine Pollock The Fellowship

Christine Pollock CBE

Christine Pollock CBE was appointed Executive Director of learning and leisure services at North Lanarkshire Council in 2007 and is also a past president of the Association of Directors of Education.  Christine represents the association on the Curriculum for Excellence Management Board and is also a member of the commission providing guidance on developing Scotland’s young workforce.

John Simmons The Fellowship

Professor John Simmons FRSE FEMechE

Professor John Simmons, a retired vice-chancellor of Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, and a member of SQA’s board of management from 2005-2013.  John has held various roles with SQA including convenor of our accreditation committee and has served on our audit, international and commercial committees. From 2011-2013, John was chair of the SQA Advisory Council.

Pride o’ Worth

In addition to the range of Awards presented on the evening, SQA’s Pride o’ Worth Awards are given to one individual and one centre who have demonstrated outstanding achievement over the course of the year.

This year, SQA’s Pride o’ Worth Awards were given to Jamie Sweeney and the partnership of Glasgow Clyde College and ScottishPower.
