Iona Flewitt, a former pupil at Arran High School, was named joint winner of the SQA Star Award for School Candidate of the Year.  She shares the award with Alexander Fyfe, a former pupil of Madras College in St Andrews.

Iona achieved five ‘A’ grade Highers in her fifth year at school before studying three Advanced Highers and the Scottish Baccalaureate in Science in her sixth year.   She was named joint dux during her final year at Arran High School and winner of the ‘North Ayrshire Rising Star’ award for academic achievement. Since leaving school, Iona now intends to embark upon a career in medicine.

Since leaving the St. Andrews’ school, Alexander, who is also elected to the Scottish Youth Parliament, has gone onto study at the London School of Economics with a view to a career in the civil service
