Saltcoats bakery serves up Scotch Pie of the Year

Saltcoats based bakery, The Kandy Bar, has cooked up a storm and been named the 15th annual World Scotch Pie Champion.
Proprietor Stephen McAllister said: “I am delighted! To have been given the ultimate accolade and to be able to call our pie the world champion as judged by a panel of experts is just fantastic.”
SQA qualifications manager, Graeme Findlay, served on the 50 strong judging panel and was impressed at the quality of the products on offer.
Speaking after the ceremony, Graeme said: “The standard of food presented to the judges was exceptional and demonstrates the craft and skill of bakers and butchers across Scotland. On behalf of everyone at SQA, I congratulate Stephen and his staff at The Kandy Bar on their fantastic achievement.”
Alan Clarke of Scottish Bakers, said “Once again we have brought together the best pies and baked goods in the land and today we can really celebrate the achievement of our hard working butchers and bakers. My heartfelt congratulations go to our winner, and indeed everyone today taking away a prize, they are all winners in my book.”
