The Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ 5) in Supply Chain Management at SCQF level 11 allows candidates to demonstrate competence in job-related skills in their particular area of work and expertise.

Supply Chain Management is about managing the flow of information, materials, services and money across any activity, in a way which maximises the effectiveness of the process. It is relevant to all sizes of businesses across the public, private and voluntary sectors. Supply chain practitioners may be involved in any or all areas of the supply chain, for example: procurement, logistics, transport, operations management, export/international trade.

The Supply Chain Management SVQs provide Units for strategic level, management level and technical level practitioners (Level 5, 4 and 3 equating to SCQF 11, 8 and 7 respectively). The SVQs are intended for people who work in the supply chain, such as material planners, contracts managers, procurement assistants, supply chain directors, distribution supervisors, and buyers.

This qualification is available through employers and training providers.

Why deliver this qualification

SVQs are based on National Occupational Standards. SQA works in partnership with other organisations to ensure that National Occupational Standards (NOS) are relevant to the current and future needs of Scottish industries.

The SVQ 5 in Supply Chain Management at SCQF level 11 is a re-accredited qualification.

Upon successful completion, learners will gain an internationally recognised qualification which guarantees that they have the skills, knowledge and abilities required to carry out their role successfully.  Employers will also benefit from their employees being proficient.

As assessment is carried out in the workplace this minimises any time learners would need to be away from their work.

The SVQ can be offered in any of the following modes:

  • full-time
  • part-time (eg day-release)
  • open and distance learning

Who does this qualification suit

This SVQ is suitable for:

  • individuals undertaking the qualification as part of an apprenticeship
  • individuals who are currently in employment and who wish to obtain a formal qualification
  • individuals who wish to undertake continuing professional development for current and future roles

The SVQ 5 in Supply Chain Management at SCQF level 11 is suitable for those in a senior managerial role such as chief executive, director, senior manager and strategic manager.

Access

Entry is at the discretion of the centre.

Candidates should be in a job or placement where they are carrying out relevant tasks and responsibilities which allow then to gather the required evidence.

No prior qualifications are required to undertake this qualification, although significant experience in/knowledge of subject is required.

Progression

The SVQ 5 in Supply Chain Management could provide progression to:

  • relevant professional body qualifications
  • degree level , post graduate study at a higher education institution
  • employment in a wide range of sectors

Approval

Centres with devolved authority for approval should use their own internal approval process.

Centres without devolved authority require to come forward for approval and should contact SQA’s Business Development Team for guidance.

Assessors and verifiers must be able to meet SQA’s general requirements for technical/occupational competence as outlined in the Systems and Qualification Approval Guide.

For details of the Units making up the SVQ, please refer to the Assessor’s Guidelines (1.49 MB) and Assessment Guidance (1.23 MB) for the SVQs in Supply Chain Management at levels 2, 3, 4 and 5 documents.

This qualification is now in its lapsing period and will finish on 31.12.2018.
Centres should note:

  • The qualification will be deleted from the relevant catalogue
  • The qualification’s content and delivery tools will remain on SQA’s website until 31.12.2018. at which point they will be removed and archived
  • No new centres may be approved to offer the qualification
  • No candidates can be entered for the qualification
  • Centres should ensure candidates complete the qualification and results are submitted

to SQA before 31.12.2018.
