Apprentice scoops top prize at Lantra Scotland awards

Lantra 2015Callum Low, a 19-year-old game and wildlife trainee from Arbroath, was named Overall Winner at this year’s Lantra Scotland Land-based and Aquaculture Learner of the Year Awards. Callum also won Game and Wildlife Learner of the Year and the Modern Apprentice of the Year Award, which was sponsored by SQA.

Callum - pictured front row, centre - recently completed a Modern Apprenticeship SVQ Level 2 in Gamekeeping at North Highland College UHI while working at Invermark Estate in Angus. Callum plays an integral role supporting Gary Maclennan, Invermark’s head gamekeeper, undertaking a variety of roles from vermin control, to deer and grouse management and helping supervise commercial shooting days.

Callum commented, “I am delighted to win this award. It is an honour and culminates what has been a challenging but very rewarding year for me. I would like to thank my employer, Lord Dalhousie, for giving me this opportunity, as well as my tutors and mentors at North Highland College UHI. I believe that winning this award will give me the recognition I need to go on and succeed in my chosen profession.”
