Certificates & Diplomas in Sustainable Construction at QCF levels 2 & 3

The Certificate in Sustainable Construction at QCF levels 2 and 3 will develop knowledge and skills in areas such as waste and waste management in sustainable construction, energy in buildings for sustainable construction, airtight technologies in sustainable construction, and water use and harvesting in sustainable construction.

The Certificate in Sustainable Construction at QCF level 3 will develop knowledge and skills in the above areas as well as offering the option to focus on some of the following areas: environmental impact of buildings, materials and products; low carbon techniques and technologies; sustainable building standards, regulations and methodologies; as well as solar thermal, photovoltaic and heat pump technologies, and building insulation for building fabric super-structures and services.

These qualifications are available through employers and training providers.

Why deliver this qualification

Learners can progress to a range of courses at a higher level including Occupational Work Supervision or Construction Site Management, allowing centres to retain or build student numbers.

This Certificate in Sustainable Construction at QCF level 2 can be offered in any of the following modes:

  • full-time
  • part-time (eg day-release)
  • open and distance learning
  • infill into existing classes
  • evening provision

Access

As with all SQA qualifications, entry is at the discretion of the centre.

Progression

Level 2 Certificate in Sustainable Construction

Candidates who successfully complete the Certificate in Sustainable Construction at QCF level 2 can progress to a range of jobs, including:

  • Construction/Building Site Operatives

This qualification also provides progression to the following SQA qualifications:

  • Level 3 Certificate in Sustainable Construction
  • Level 3 Diploma in Sustainable Construction

Level 3 Certificate / Diploma in Sustainable Construction

Candidates who successfully complete these qualifications can progress to a range of jobs within the construction industry, including:

  • General Builders
  • Construction Site Supervisors
  • Construction Site Managers

With further experience and qualifications (e.g. Foundation Degree in a related discipline), candidates may be able to progress further in their career into job roles such as:

  • Project Managers
  • Quantity Surveyors
  • Architectural Technicians
  • Building Surveyors

Approval

Centres will have to come forward for approval and should contact SQA’s Business Development Team for guidance.

Assessors and verifiers must be able to meet SQA’s general requirements for technical/occupational competence as outlined in the Guide to Approval.

 

How to assess

Ongoing course assessment will apply. Each Unit specification gives detailed information on the Evidence Requirements and approaches to assessment for the Unit.

The Certificate in Sustainable Construction at QCF level 2 requires the learner to complete 4 mandatory Units (14 QCF credit points)
