Consultation on the review of the Annual Statistical Report (ASR)

The Annual Statistical Report (ASR) is published annually providing details of the entries and results for SQA qualifications in each academic year. It is being reviewed to ensure that it best meets users’ needs.

From feedback gathered through an online web survey and a review of the requests received for statistical information, changes to the ASR are proposed and set out in the consultation document below.

The survey closed on 28 February 2014 and links to the consultation questionnaire have been removed. Thank you to everyone who took time to provide feedback. The responses will be reviewed and a record of decisions and actions, together with explanations for them, will be published by the end of May.

Response to the consultation on the review of the Annual Statistical Report

This section reports on the responses to the consultation on the review of the Annual Statistical Report by Scottish Qualifications Authority.  The consultation ran from December 6th 2013 to February 28th 2014.  SQA would like to thank those individuals who took the time to respond to the consultation.

The SQA proposed revised format and content to the Annual Statistical Report.  6 responses were received to the consultation. The majority of responses supported or held no opinion on the proposed changes.  Feedback was received regarding the reduction or removal of some content, namely appeals/assessment arrangements and qualification uptake from top 50 to top 20. Provision of this content will either be supplied through other annual publications or can be requested through the ad hoc statistical service (

Based on the responses received, SQA will implement the revised Annual Statistical Report in the 2014 edition due to be published in April 2015.  Details on the new format and content of the Annual Statistical Report can be found in the "Notification of Change to the Annual Statistical Report (ASR) from 2014 onwards" section above.
