Selex ES wins at Scottish MA Awards

SQA Chief Executive, Dr Janet Brown presents the award to Selex ES for Large Employer of the Year

Selex ES, a Finmeccanica Company from Edinburgh, was named as Scotland’s Large Employer of the Year, sponsored by SQA, at Scotland’s Modern Apprenticeship Awards.

The Large Employer of the Year award rewards employers with less than 5,000 employees who have shown exceptional commitment to the Modern Apprenticeship programme. Selex ES has been supporting apprenticeships for more than 60 years and sees them as the lifeblood of the company and vital for its long-term future.

Allan Colquhoun, University Liaison and Emerging Technologies Manager at Selex ES explained: “Modern Apprentices bring new ideas and enthusiasm and are encouraged to be innovative. We want them to contribute and challenge.”

Laser and radar technology company, Selex ES currently employs 50 engineering, craft and business Modern Apprentices. The firm recently started a pre-apprenticeship pilot with an Edinburgh school and is now guiding apprentices toward degree programmes.

Dr Janet Brown, SQA Chief Executive, said: “Selex ES is helping young people in Scotland to work while they learn, developing their careers in the information technology sector through the Modern Apprenticeship framework. As an international leader in electronic and information technologies, their approach to helping young people to succeed in this sector is vital – I congratulate them on their achievements.”
