Level 3 Diploma in Playwork Principles into Practice

The Level 3 Diploma in Playwork Principles into Practice is a competence based qualification, the primary purpose of which is to develop strategic knowledge and skills in areas such as Play Theory and Practice. Learners can specialise in developing strategic knowledge of Playwork Theory and Practice linked to the Playwork Principles. Your job role will include developing strategic policy within the Playwork sector.

This qualification covers areas such as: Analyse the Nature of Play, Analyse Playwork Practice, Integrate Playwork Principles, Theory and Practice, Analyse Organisation Playwork Practice, Analyse Reflective Practice in Playwork.

The learner will develop knowledge and skills at a strategic level through analysis and reflection.  The Units will be assessed using Assessor observation and learners’ reflective accounts.  Learners will engage in individual and group work and be assessed on their reflective accounts, personal reflection and own personal development plans. Their reflective accounts should include current theories/approaches in development related to playwork.

This qualification is available through approved centres in Wales.

Why deliver this qualification

This qualification offers centres flexibility and choice because of the comprehensive range of optional Units.

Successful completion of the Diploma can lead to employment within the Playwork sector.  Alternatively, learners can progress to a range of higher education courses.

This Level 3 Diploma in Playwork Principles into Practice can be offered in any of the following modes:

  • full-time
  • part-time (eg day-release)
  • open and distance learning
  • infill into existing classes
  • evening provision

Who does this qualification suit

This qualification is suitable for a wide range of learners including:

  • those who have successfully completed both the SQA Level 3 Award and Certificate in Playwork Principles into Practice
  • adult returners to education
  • people in employment who wish to enhance their career prospects
  • individuals who wish to start their own business

 

Apprenticeships

This qualification does not form part of an Apprenticeship.

 

Access

It is recommended that learners should have previously obtained the SQA Level 3 Certificate in Playwork Principles into Practice or other relevant qualifications at QCF Level 3 or SCQF Level 6/7.

This qualification is for Strategic Play Managers and Childcare Managers to facilitate progression from the present SQA Level 3 Certificate in Playwork Principles into Practice.

Learners should be in a job or placement where they are carrying out relevant tasks and responsibilities which allow them to gather the required evidence. 

Progression

The level 3 Diploma could provide progression to a range of higher education courses.

Learners may also progress to employment which involves strategic development of Play Strategies linked to the Playwork Principles.

Approval

Centres will have to come forward for approval and should contact SQA’s Business Development Team for guidance.

Assessors and verifiers must be able to meet SQA’s general requirements for technical/occupational competence as outlined in the Guide to Approval.

Ongoing course assessment will apply. Each Unit specification gives detailed information on the Evidence Requirements and approaches to assessment for the Unit.

Assessment strategy

Learners will be assessed on the knowledge and skills developed in each Unit.  The Assessment may take a number of forms including reports, reflective accounts and developoing folios of work.  The practical Unit will help learners develop skills in working with children prior to being assessed on performance in the workplace.
