Annual Review 2016
This Annual Review describes some of the services, projects and initiatives that were delivered by the staff and wider community of professionals who worked with SQA in 2014–15.
It complements SQA’s Annual Report and Accounts by providing a data and graphics-based transect of SQA’s activities in the past 12 months.
We review SQA’s service achievements in the year in which the new Higher was introduced, but we also appraise our commitment to corporate social responsibility, reflect on SQA’s 100 year tradition in qualifications, and look to the future at how SQA is embracing and supporting change.
SQA Accreditation has a separate Annual Review.
SQA had a successful year in 2014–15 as a result of the commitment of staff, appointees and partners, combined with contributions from our many users, customers and stakeholders. This Review is for you. We hope you find it approachable, interesting and useful.

We take great pride in providing excellent customer service, and aim to make sure that our customers and centres get the information they need, when they need it.
Our commitment to communities
We take our commitment to working with communities very seriously. Whether it’s through empowering our people, fundraising for charities or minimising our carbon footprint — we try to give something back to society.
How we are embracing change
Enabling personal growth is at the heart of what SQA does. We listen to what our customers need and use this understanding to create qualifications and services that support them.
Our qualifications tradition
Celebrating what is the heart of the Scottish Qualifications Authority. Names may change, times may change but the purpose we serve and our approach remain stable.
Our commitment to you
SQA has high standards for ourselves and for our customers. We strive to ensure that our qualifications are inclusive and accessible to all, that they recognise the achievements of learners, and that they provide clear pathways to further learning or employment.
