Key Stage 2 Item Validation Trial for the Department for Education, Standards and Testing Agency
In December 2014, SQA was awarded the contract to carry out part of the trialling process for the Standards and Testing Agency, which is responsible for developing the National Curriculum tests on behalf of the Department for Education. This process is used to assess the performance and validity of test items for future National Curriculum assessments.
The contract was for the delivery of the Item Validation Trial for Key Stage 2, which is conducted once an item has been through expert review to provide greater evidence that the item functions as expected. The trial provides quantitative and qualitative information on the performance of all items included in the test papers to support the next stage of the trialling process.
The trial involved more than 5,000 pupils across 200 schools in England and focused on four subjects at Key Stage 2:
- English Reading
- English Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling
SQA delivered all project requirements on time to an exemplary high standard. The final trial report was delivered to the Standards and Testing Agency on 2 October 2015.
