The Scottish Government initiated a review of all National Courses in June 2001 with the purpose of considering how best to reduce the complexity, variety and total volume of a number of assessment in each subject.
Following the publication of subject review reports in 2002, an investigation report published in August 2003 set out the agreed actions and recommendations for revisions to Music Courses and Units. Two years of development activity culminated in the publication of revised Course and Unit Specifications in May 2005 for implementation in session 2006/2007 when all centres move to the new Arrangements. 2007 is the first diet of the new Arrangements.
We recently launched two National Certificates: one in Music and one in Sound Production. As a result of this work 25 new and revised Units have been developed. Assessment Support Packs are available to accompany a number of Units. To access electronic versions of these, please see your centre's SQA Co-ordinator.
SQA has recently designed and developed a number of new National Progression Awards (NPAs) in Music and Sound Production and these will be formally launched at a venue in Stirling on the morning of Friday 19 March 2010.
A copy of the invitation letter and reply slip is attached below. If you would like to attend the launch event, please return the reply slip by Friday 5 March.
