PDA Final Accuracy Checking by Pharmacy Technicians SCQF level 7

The Professional Development Award (PDA) in Final Accuracy Checking by Pharmacy Technicians at SCQF level 7 has been designed to enable learners to develop the knowledge and skills required to carry out the role of an accuracy checking pharmacy technician.

The PDA is also designed to provide continuing professional development (CPD) and career progression for pharmacy technicians who are employed in a people-centred role, supporting the provision of pharmaceutical care to individuals in hospital, community and primary care settings.

This qualification is available through colleges, training providers and some employers.

This PDA is recognised by NHS Education for Scotland (NES) and pharmacy employers as a suitable qualification to enable learners to be employed in a pharmacy or healthcare setting as an accuracy checking pharmacy technician.

Entry to this qualification is at the discretion of the centre, however learners must be employed in a pharmacy or healthcare setting and be practising as a pharmacy technician in Great Britain.

This PDA may provide progression to degree-level study. There are links from the units of this PDA to the PDA in Assessment and Supply of Individual Patients' Medicines (GE7D 47). Further information is contained in the group award specification.

Centers interested in offering this qualification require to come forward for approval and should contact SQA's Business Development Team for guidance. 

Assessors and verifiers must be able to meet SQA's general requirements for technical/occupational competence as outlined in the Systems and Qualification Approval Guide.  The specific delivery requirements are set out in the Group Award Specification (Arrangements Document).

The PDA in Final Accuracy Checking by Pharmacy Technicians will be assessed by a combination of closed and open-book assessments and evidence generated within the workplace. Each unit specification gives detailed information on the evidence requirements and approaches to assessment for each unit.
