Early Education and Childcare is the holistic study of the care, learning and development of children aged 0-12 years. It covers both the domestic setting and all environments where practice is guided by legislation, policy and professional ethics. The course gives learners the opportunity to acquire specialist knowledge and the ability required to apply, analyse and evaluate that knowledge.

It is SQA’s policy to review qualifications on a regular basis. As a result of feedback from centres, it was agreed to make minor amendments to the Project Assessment of Play in Early Education & Childcare at Higher level. We are certain that the revisions are in the best interests of both candidates and teachers/lecturers, as well as the subject. The revised Project Assessment Specification is now available to download.
A new Case Study has been added to replace the ‘Jack’ scenario. This will still cover the age range 3-5 years.
