Network Devices

A network requires certain hardware to allow it to work properly. A network could be two computers connected by an appropriate cable to each other's NIC, however, this would not allow the network to grow or scale to a size that would meet an organisations' requirements. In order to allow full networks to be implemented the use of the appropriate network device must be carried out.

Common devices found on a network include:

  • Repeater
  • Hub
  • Bridge
  • Switch
  • Router
  • Gateway

All of these devices have their own characteristics and specific tasks to perform.
