Activity 4.10

On an XP computer open Control Panel and double click Windows Firewall.

The first screen allows you to turn on and off the firewall. When the firewall is on, all outside sources are blocked from accessing the computer apart from the programs and services under the Exceptions tab.

On a mobile system in an insecure environment, you may wish to stop these as well. Instead of removing or disabling them individually, you can select Don't allow exceptions.

Remember to deselect it when back on your normal network.

Take time to read What else should I know about Windows Firewall? which is at the bottom of the General tab.

You should now have an active firewall protecting your computer.
