Fuses and Circuit Breakers

Fuses and circuit breakers are devices which are designed to protect the electrical system from overload and short circuit conditions. Note that they are not intended to safeguard the users. Their purpose is to protect items such as wires, cables, distribution panels and sockets from damage. They are current-sensitive devices, which switch off the circuit if the current rises above a safe preset limit.
