The achievements of Scotland’s colleges, their staff and learners were celebrated at the College Development Network (CDN) College Awards on Friday evening in Glasgow. SQA were in attendance to present the SQA Judges’ Award category, which recognises the very best overall submission.

The CDN Awards present a unique opportunity to celebrate success, reward achievements and showcase to the wider community the many outstanding projects and initiatives being delivered by colleges throughout Scotland.

City of Glasgow College, which also won the Sustainability Action Award, was declared the SQA Judges’ Award winner. The category saw judges carefully consider the achievements of each of the winners in all other categories, including College Colleague of the Year, Student of the Year, and Inclusive College.

Supporting COP26, City of Glasgow College created an International Maritime Hub within its Riverside campus, and a Global Business Hub within its City campus. Launched by first minister, Nicola Sturgeon, the hubs brought together global leaders and delivered over 100 key events. In the process, the college became a global showcase for green technology, green innovation, and green skills. The judges commented that the project had outstanding international engagement and a real-world impact which amplified Glasgow’s unique role in hosting COP26.

John McMorris, Director of Business Development at SQA, presented the Judges’ Award to City of Glasgow College. He said: “Congratulations to all the nominees and finalists, in particular everyone at City of Glasgow College. To put together such a large project on an international stage is extremely impressive, especially when shaping green innovation and sustainability initiatives.”
