NextGen: HN news

Higher Education Institute engagement round-up

Members of the NextGen: HN team provided an update on the project – including on grading, and articulation and progression – to Universities Scotland and the Colleges Scotland Joint Articulation Group (JAG) in February.

We also used this as an opportunity to offer additional support.

The second Articulation, Progression & Grading Advisory Group of the session took place on Tuesday 14 February. The Group were given updates to ensure they were aware of the progress of the project alongside the ongoing work of the strand’s working groups. There was useful discussion throughout about the feasibility of a National Articulation Agreement, Framework or Service prompted by a paper prepared by SQA. An updated version of the paper will be discussed at the next JAG meeting in April.

The feedback we received from university colleagues suggested it would be helpful for unit descriptors to reflect the content of their respective degrees. Scottish universities have received the units and are aware they may be updated in response to feedback received.

Quality Assurance Agency – Update

The Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) for Higher Education have published the revised Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Framework as part of the Valuing and Recognising Prior Learning and Experience Project.

QAA have launched a series of short, practically-focused online workshops. The workshops are aimed at practitioners in the tertiary sector who wish to learn more about RPL.

NextGen presented one of the QAA workshops at the beginning of the year. The session provided an overview of the qualification design used to incorporate meta-skills and provided an opportunity for attendees to discuss how they could support progression to further qualifications.
