Support for NQ Music - Composing Assignment

Education Scotland and SQA are working with partners to prepare support for teachers and lecturers with the return of the assessment of the composing assignment to National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher Music courses in session 2023-24.

At the start of next session, SQA are planning to publish a series of audio presentations which will signpost the range of Understanding Standards materials available, give advice on the requirements and how to approach the assignment.

On Tuesday 29 August, the Music Education Partnership Group (MEPG) in connection with the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland will be hosting an event for two Music teachers from each local authority and the Scottish Council of Independent Schools (SCIS). Music teachers will present their approaches to composition in the senior phase. In addition, attendees will be invited to share good practice for approaches to composing that they use with their own learners.
