National Courses - updated documents and assessment support materials following the 2023 exam diet
Following the 2023 exam diet, we are updating course specifications and assessment support materials for some National Courses to clarify some of the information for candidates, teachers, and lecturers.
The following updated documents are now available. Please ensure you refer to the updated versions with your candidates, which are dated July and August 2023.
Advanced Higher Accounting – project assessment task
We have amended the Advanced Higher Accounting project assessment task to reflect that (International Accounting Standard) IAS 18 has been superseded by (International Financial Reporting Standard) IFRS 15.
National 5 Business Management – coursework assessment task
We have made a minor amendment to the additional guidance in the ‘Detailed marking instructions’, amending the example in section 1. The amendment relates only to the marking instructions, as mark allocations and marking criteria have not changed.
Higher Business Management – coursework assessment task
We have made a minor amendment to the additional guidance in the ‘Detailed marking instructions’, removing an example in section 4. This amendment relates only to the marking instructions as mark allocations and marking criteria have not changed.
Advanced Higher Business Management – coursework assessment task
We have made a minor amendment to the detailed marking instructions in ‘Marking instructions’, deleting text from ‘Structure and referencing’. The amendment relates only to the marking instructions as mark allocations and marking criteria have not changed.
We have also made minor amendments to ‘Instructions for candidates’, adding text to ‘Using sources of information’ and deleting text from ‘Structure and referencing’.

About post-exam diet changes to documents
It is normal practice for SQA to review course materials after the exam diet concludes.
During the marking of exams and coursework, our exam teams sometimes identify areas of the published marking instructions or instructions for candidates that could be made clearer.
We will publish all updated documents by the end of September.
