National 5 Practical Metalworking and National 5 Practical Woodworking - practical activity
In session 2023–24, National 5 Practical Metalworking and National 5 Practical Woodworking courses will return to full assessment. This includes a return to the annually issued practical activity task.
The practical activity for 2023–24 will be issued in two stages:
Step 1
Parts and materials: an initial simplified drawing with a cutting list of the materials required which will be valid for sessions 2018–19, 2019–20, 2020–21, 2021–22, 2022–23, 2023–24 only. Details of the construction/joint type on the drawing are not provided at this time.
This is available now on the subject pages for National 5 Practical Metalworking and National 5 Practical Woodworking, under ‘Parts and Materials’.
Step 2
Practical activity: the complete working drawings for the practical activity, giving the construction and joint type, detailed dimensions and detailed cutting list for the component parts.
This will be published on the secure area of SQA’s website at the end of October of each academic session, and will only be valid for that academic session.
Assessment information
Assessment information for teachers and lecturers is provided in the course specification documents for these courses, which are available from the relevant NQ subject pages (see links provided above).
