Art and Design - updated portfolio guidance and evaluation templates for National 5 and Higher portfolios

Art and Design – National 5 and Higher portfolio guidance

We have published an updated guidance document for National 5 and Higher Art and Design portfolios.

The requirements for the portfolios were not modified during the Covid-19 pandemic. However, at this time we issued guidance that explained how learners could submit concise and streamlined portfolios to access the full range of marks. This guidance continues to be valid, and learners can choose to apply it when producing their portfolios.

Learners can submit more than is outlined in the guidance, but there is no advantage in submitting additional work that repeats skills already demonstrated.

The guidance document can be found on the National 5 Art and Design webpage and the Higher Art and Design webpage.

Art and Design – updated evaluation templates for National 5 and Higher portfolios

We have made some formatting changes to the evaluation templates for National 5 and Higher Art and Design portfolios. These are:

We have put these changes in place to help learners attach the correct evaluation to each portfolio.

Each year, a significant number of portfolios are submitted to SQA with the incorrect evaluation template. As the expressive and design portfolios are marked separately, we have made these changes to reduce the risk of learners attaching the incorrect evaluation and being unable to access the full range of marks as a result.

The evaluation templates are available from the ‘Coursework’ tab on the National 5 Art and Design webpage and the Higher Art and Design webpage.
