Foundation Apprenticeship in Engineering
SQA and Skills Development Scotland (SDS) can confirm that the Foundation Apprenticeship in Engineering Level 6 framework (GR93 46) – initially introduced as a temporary measure in 2020 – will permanently replace the original framework (GL7C 46) during 2023-24.
The following arrangements will be in place, depending on when learners started their Foundation Apprenticeship in Engineering:
- Learners who started in 2022 - 23 on a two-year delivery model, can either use the original framework (GL7C 46), or the newer framework (GR93 46).
- Learners who started in 2023 - 24 – whether on a one-year or two-year delivery model – must use the newer framework (GR93 46).
The newer framework was developed in recognition of the challenges faced by centres and learners in completing the SVQ Performing Engineering Operations (PEO) component of the original framework.
It consists of the National Certificate at SCQF Level 6 and three mandatory PEO SVQ units. Centres do not need to include the optional/additional PEO units but can do so if they wish.
The original framework (GL7C 46) will finish on 31 July 2024.
