QCF Awards, Certificates and Diplomas For IT User Skills

The IT User Skills Awards, Certificates and Diplomas at QCF levels 1, 2 and 3 are flexible competence based qualifications.

The IT User Skills Award, Certificate and Diploma at QCF level 1 provide learners, who have limited experience in IT, with the practical experience and the underpinning knowledge and understanding to confidently operate IT software and hardware in their chosen area of study.

The IT User Skills Award, Certificate and Diploma at QCF level 2 provide learners, who have some experience in Information Technology (IT), with the knowledge and skills to operate IT software and hardware and to confidently approach more challenging tasks in their chosen area of study.

The IT User Award, Certificate and Diploma at QCF level 3 provide capable learners, who already possess skills and experience in Information Technology (IT), the opportunity to undertake tasks which will further develop knowledge and the ability to complete complex tasks with considerable autonomy.

Structure

The structure of the qualifications suits various modes of delivery — including teacher-centred, student centred, e-learning or work-based approaches.

Structure of SQA Level 1 Award For IT User Skills (ICT) (QCF)

Learners must complete a minimum of 9 credits.

On completion learners will have achieved a minimum of 60 guided learning hours.

Structure of SQA Level 1 Certificate For IT User Skills (ICT) (QCF)

Learners must complete a minimum of 13 credits.

On completion learners will have achieved a minimum of 90 guided learning hours.

Structure of SQA Level 1 Diploma For IT User Skills (ICT) (QCF)

Learners must complete a minimum of 37credits.

On completion learners will have achieved a minimum of 245 guided learning hours.

Structure of SQA Level 2 Award For IT User Skills (ICT) (QCF)

Learners must complete a minimum of 10 credits.

On completion learners will have achieved a minimum of 70 guided learning hours.

Access

As with all SQA qualifications, entry is at the discretion of the centre. No previous knowledge of computers is required for level 1 but some experience is beneficial for learners at level 2 and 3.
