Be prepared - getting it right on exam day

Exam day has arrived and you've prepared for it as much as you can. Here are some tips to help you do your best.

Eat: You might be tempted to skip breakfast but do try and find the time to eat.

Supplies: Make sure you have the necessary exam supplies, such as pens. Bring a bottle of water to keep you hydrated and focused. Ask your teacher/lecturer if you're unsure what you need.

Timing: Being flustered isn't the best start to your exam so make sure you know when and where it's taking place and give yourself plenty of time to get there.

The exam

When the exam starts, read and re-read all the questions. Make sure you understand the question and what you need to do.

Start with the questions you CAN answer and it'll help boost your confidence. If you're stuck at a difficult question, come back to it later with fresh eyes.

Look at the number of marks for each question to understand how important it is and how much work it needs. If you're running out of time, work on the higher scoring questions first to get the best overall score.

Check your answers

Leave time at the end to check all questions for any mistakes or ways to improve them - about 20 minutes for a two-hour exam should be enough.

You'll want to discuss questions and answers with friends but try to keep it in perspective - and don't panic if answers differ.
