SQA Advanced Diploma in Golf Management

SQA Advanced Diplomas provide skills and knowledge that meet the needs of employers. They are designed to equip learners with the knowledge needed for employment, or to progress to further academic or professional qualifications.

The SQA Advanced Diploma in Golf Management (SCQF level 8) builds on the knowledge and skills developed within either the SQA Advanced Certificate in Golf Course Management (SCQF level 7) or the SQA Advanced Certificate in Golf Club Management (SCQF level 7) and covers the golf industry and tourism, managing turf, playing performance, and project management.

This qualification is available through a growing number of colleges and universities around the world. Typically, an SQA Advanced Diploma takes two years to complete.

Why deliver this qualification

SQA Advanced Diplomas have been developed by SQA in partnership with colleges, universities and industry — so employers recognise that they provide sound evidence of ability.

The unit-based structure supports flexible delivery. A unit is typically 40 hours of timetabled learning.

This SQA Advanced Diploma provides progression routes to further study (see Progression).

Who does this qualification suit

The SQA Advanced Diploma in Golf Management is suitable for a wide range of learners including:

  • school leavers
  • adult returners to education
  • learners in employment who wish to enhance their career prospects
  • learners who wish to start their own business

Access

As with all SQA qualifications, entry is at the discretion of the centre. Examples of formal entry qualifications include:

  • appropriate groupings of National Units
  • any two National Qualifications at Higher together with three National 5 passes (or equivalent)
  • an SVQ at Level 2 or 3 in a relevant area such as Amenity Horticulture: Sports turf
  • a National Certificate in Greenkeeping
  • an SQA Advanced Certificate in Golf Course Management, Golf Club Management or Golf Management.
  • any comparable qualifications from other awarding bodies including NVQs at level 3 in related areas

Different combinations of relevant National Qualifications, vocational qualifications and equivalent qualifications from other awarding bodies may also be acceptable.

Progression

Learners who achieve the SQA Advanced Diploma in Golf Management can progress to a related degree level course. For further information please refer to SQA’s progression partners.

The SQA Advanced Diploma provides learners with a wide range of employment opportunities. With appropriate experience, the SQA Advanced Diploma could lead to Head Greenkeeper positions.

Offer this qualification

Centres with devolved authority for approval should use their own internal approval process.

Centres without devolved authority must come forward for approval and should contact SQA’s Business Development Team for guidance.

Assessors and verifiers must be able to meet SQA’s general requirements for technical/occupational competence as outlined in the Systems and Qualification Approval Guide.
