SQA celebrates apprenticeship success

SQA helped recognise inspiring apprentices and employers at the annual Scottish Apprenticeship Awards.

We sponsored the ‘Large Employer of the Year’ category, which showcases the commitment of businesses to the apprenticeship programme. This saw Arnold Clark, BAE Systems Naval Ships, BSW Timber Ltd and Leondardo MW Ltd attend the Awards ceremony as category finalists.

Arnold Clark offer a wide range of apprenticeships, from motor vehicle technicians and vehicle refinishers to business administrators and customer services.

Apprentices at BAE Systems Naval Ships benefit from the wide variety of opportunities which one of the country’s largest engineering firms has to offer.

By joining BSW Timber Ltd, apprentices contribute to a company taking an innovative, technically advanced approach to the timber industry.

Through its apprenticeship programme, Leonardo MW Ltd is highlighting the many exciting opportunities open to young people in the engineering industry.

SQA presented the award to BAE Systems Naval Ships at the ceremony, which took place at Kelvingrove Museum in Glasgow.

John McMorris, SQA's Director of Business Development, said: “The finalists in the ‘Large Employer of the Year’ category are excellent ambassadors for the apprenticeship scheme. Apprenticeships offer young people exciting work based learning opportunities, which lead to them achieving industry recognised qualifications. Well done to all the category finalists, in particular our winner BAE Systems Naval Ship.”

Congratulations to all the nominees. Find out more about all the finalists.
