SQA were on hand to recognise political stars of the future at the Scottish Youth Parliament (SYP) Awards. The awards celebrate the achievements of the Parliament’s members and their support workers, and SQA attended as sponsors of the ‘One to Watch’ category.

Members of the SYP are democratically elected every two years, to represent young people in all of Scotland’s 32 local authorities. The goal of the SYP is for the voices of Scottish children and young people to be heard, to ensure the country is the best place in the world to grow up.

The achievements of those shortlisted for the ‘One to Watch’ award suggest they will continue to make a significant contribution to the Parliament in the coming years.

Announced as the winner of the ‘One to Watch’ category was Josh Kennedy, MSYP for Renfrewshire North. Katie Talent, MSYP for Uddingston and Bellshill, won a Special Commendation for her efforts.

Laura Gemmell, SQA Responsible Business Officer, presented the awards to Josh and Katie. She said: “Rising stars like Josh and Katie are already making a significant impact on the SYP. Their dedication to giving young people a voice will ensure that decision makers continue to hear about the issues that are important to them. These awards are an excellent way to recognise the efforts of SYP members in making sure Scotland is a country that listens to its young people.”

Congratulations to Josh, Katie, and all the winners and finalists, on their achievements.
