Information for SEVs and EVs

The information below will support your Continuing Professional Record (CPDR) and Personal Development Plan (PDP) submission.

Pay close attention to this information as the requirements for newly appointed SEVs and EVs differs in some instances.

Read through this course and familiarise yourself with the content of the programme, in particular the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) as course is revised yearly.

What do I have to do to keep my CPD up-to-date?

  • Ensure that your Continuing Professional Record (CPDR) has a minimum of 2 entries
  • Experienced SEVs and EVs should ensure their Personal Development Plan (PDP) has a minimum of 2 entries
  • External Verifiers submit a Personal Development Plan (PDP) and Continuing Professional Development Record (CPDR) by 30 June in any given year at the latest to your Senior External Verifier (SEV).
  • Senior External Verifiers submit a Personal Development Plan (PDP) and Continuing Professional Development Record (CPDR) to (cpdr@sqa.org.uk) by 30 June in any given year, at the latest.
  • Early Personal Development Plan (PDP) and CPDR submissions are encouraged and strongly advised.
  • If you are a Beauty Care, Hairdressing or Learning and Development Senior External Verifier/External Verifier please see the relevant sections, as there are additional requirements that you must complete.

What should be included in my submission

Personal Development Plan (PDP)

There are a minimum of 2 entries that should be included year on year, as a Senior External Verifier/External Verifier:

  • One entry advising how you plan to keep your occupational expertise/subject knowledge up-to-date
  • One entry advising how you plan to standardised with your Senior External Verifier/External Verifier hat on. Please ensure that you cover all verification groups that you are a member of.

A third entry will need to be included under the following circumstances:

  • You are a newly appointed SEV or EV
  • The national standards for your External Verifier qualification have been revised/updated.

In this instance, you will be required to add:

  • One entry advising that you understand and are working to the revised national standards for your External Verifier qualification. This applies to those with a Customised Award (CA), Higher National (HN) and Vocational Qualification (VQ) remit.

Continuing Professional Development Record (CPDR)

There are a minimum of 2 entries that should be included year on year, as a Senior External Verifier/External Verifier:

  • One entry advising how you kept your occupational expertise/subject knowledge up-to-date
  • One entry advising how you standardised with your Senior External Verifier/External Verifier hat on. Please ensure that you cover all verification groups that you are a member of.

A third entry will need to be included under the following circumstances:

  • You are a newly appointed SEV or EV
  • The national standards for your External Verifier qualification have been revised/updated.

In this instance, you will be required to add:

Explaining the External Verifier Qualifications for 2015/16

This course will guide and support Senior External Verifiers/External Verifiers about the requirements of the External Verifier qualifications:

  • Externally Monitor and Maintain the Quality of the Workplace (FD44 04) – SVQ
  • Conduct External Verification of the Assessment Process (H7VG 36) – HN

Completion of this course could contribute to your Personal Development Plan (PDP), Continuing Professional Development (CPD) if you opt to include this activity in your Continuing Professional Development Record (CPDR).
