Fathima Irshad (r), Glasgow Clyde College

Fathima and her husband were seeking asylum when she enrolled at Glasgow Clyde College on an 18-week NQ Practical Cookery course at SCQF level 4 in August 2018. She followed this with an NQ Professional Cookery Skills course at SCQF level 6 by January the following year.

Fathima is a very inquisitive learner who, when faced with a difficulty, does her own research and shares her understanding with the class. Her flowchart on stocks and sauces is so useful it's now part of the course.

Her lecturer asked her to give a lesson in cake decorating techniques, which she enjoyed so much that she is looking towards starting up her own business.
