Retention requirements for National courses and units

We have simplified the retention requirements for internally-assessed candidate evidence. This must now be retained until at least 30 September for internally-assessed National Course assessments and units, including SCQF level 5–7 units.

This follows consultation with SQA co-ordinators, and means we have the same requirements across all levels and no dependency on the date candidates are entered. The change comes into effect during the 2019–20 session. We believe that this makes the rule simpler to understand and apply, and also supports internal and external quality assurance.

Centres are not expected to retain ‘bulky’ evidence, but need to keep paper-based, electronic, and other ‘non-bulky’ evidence until at least 30 September. We have updated our evidence retention requirements document to reflect this change.
