SQA News 10 December 2020

Important update for users of SQA SOLAR

You may already be aware that Adobe Flash Player will no longer be supported after December 2020. SOLAR, our online assessment platform, uses Flash-based software and we are currently transitioning to HTML-based software.

From January 2021, you will no longer be able to access SQA SOLAR assessments from your internet browser. Instead, you will be able to access them through Surpass Viewer, an app which will allow you to run the software that SOLAR is based on.

How to access SOLAR through Surpass Viewer

  1. Download and install Surpass Viewer from
  2. You will be presented with a screen giving you two download options. Click on the relevant option for your device. Further details on the full download process are available on the SOLAR website.
  3. Once installed, go to the SOLAR website at
  4. Use the Centre Login and Enter Keycode buttons as normal. Once selected, the Viewer will open to run the content out of the browser.

This will allow you to continue using SOLAR, and both Flash and HTML-based assessments, after Adobe Flash Player is no longer supported.

We have provided further guidance on using the Surpass system, including videos and frequently asked questions.

If you have any questions or concerns about this transition, or you require assistance, please contact the SOLAR Helpdesk.
