Transition to SQA Advanced Qualifications
We are currently in the process of transitioning from SQA Higher National Qualifications (HNs) to SQA Advanced Qualifications outside of Scotland – a change which we announced in March 2018.
Timescales
- Final HN entries were required to be submitted by 31 December 2018.
- Most candidates who started an HN in 2018/19 would likely have graduated in summer of 2020.
- Please check your remaining HN candidate entries and ensure you submit any HN unit results by 31 December 2021 at the latest as no HN results will be processed after this date.
- Please withdraw as soon as possible any open HN unit and group award entries which you do not intend to submit results for.
We will withdraw any HN entries which have not been resulted by 1 January 2022. Should you need to transfer any candidates to the equivalent SQA Advanced Qualification you would submit a new entry and be charged the appropriate entry fee.
References to HNs during transition phase
You can refer to HNs in your operational materials – such as teaching materials and graduation photos – until 31 December 2021. You can only do this to support the delivery of HN courses that started before 31 December 2018.
You must not use course materials which refer to HNs when delivering SQA Advanced Qualifications.
You must no longer refer to HNs in any other communications, such as marketing or promotional materials. Instead, you must refer to SQA Advanced Qualifications. This includes, for example, website copy, URLs, printed materials, banner stands, social media and video content.
You can find more information about our full range of SQA Advanced Qualifications on our website.
If you need any further support, please contact your SQA Regional Manager.
