Flexibility in National 5 and Higher Dance practical activities
To provide further flexibility for National 5 and Higher Dance candidates this session, candidates can perform in their own choreography for the practical activity. This will help reduce the number of candidates working together on this component.
We recognise that some Higher candidates may decide to change from a group choreography to a solo choreography late in the course, due to the ongoing restrictions affecting learning and teaching.
Candidates who change to solo choreography should keep the same theme or have similar intentions for the piece. If they have already completed their choreography review for a group piece, they will not be required to rewrite the full review for a solo choreography. Instead, they should address any changes in the choreography review evaluation (task 3) by:
- Stating the reason for changing from a group choreography to a solo choreography.
- Explaining any new devices that they have applied through motif development for a solo choreography.
- Explaining any new spatial elements that they have used in the solo choreography.
We are updating the guidance on gathering evidence documents for National 5 and Higher Dance to include these additional clarifications. These will be published on the National 5 Dance and Higher Dance webpages in the next few days.
