2020-21 Understanding Standards resources

Understanding Standards is SQA's support programme for teachers and lecturers delivering National Qualifications.

We have a wide range of free online resources to help you strengthen your understanding of the national standards required in assessments.

This session, we have published 189 new Understanding Standards resources. These include resources to support you with gathering evidence and determining provisional results at National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher, along with some resources for National Qualifications at other levels.

These resources are tailored to each subject and are based on feedback we have received from teachers and lecturers.

We ran a series of subject-specific webinars to provide guidance on delivering and assessing National Courses in session 2020-21.

Recordings of these webinars are available from our websites for you to access at any time.

We also produced some pre-recorded webinars for English and Mathematics.

Audio presentations

Our pre-recorded audio presentations are similar to webinars. They explain the requirements of for assessments and answer any frequently asked questions we have been receiving from teachers and lecturers.

Candidate evidence and commentary materials

Candidate evidence and commentary materials contain examples of assessments completed by candidates, with a written commentary from an SQA examiner that explains why the candidate has or has not met the national standard.
