NextGen: HNC Television

The purpose of the qualification

To provide learners with basic technical skills, and an understanding of the stages of production and working practices. It will introduce learners to a range of production experiences across different roles and genres of television production. This will enable progression to employment in entry level roles or further study.

Underpinning this qualification will be the development of professional skills and personal behaviours required by the television industry, which will enhance a learner's ability to thrive in an ever-changing world.

  • 9 mandatory and 3 optional credits
  • 8 mandatory units
  • Project based approach encouraged
  • Evidence requirements for individual units result in over assessment
  • Grading based on one unit with a bias on project management skills
  • Progression to year 2 required to gain HND in Creative Industries: Television

NextGen HNC

  • 15 credits
  • 10 mandatory and 5 optional credits
  • 2 large mandatory units (5 credits each)
  • Optional units support centre specialism, changing skills gaps and local needs
  • Project based by design
  • Meta-skills development integrated into projects
  • Reduced assessment
  • Health and safety introduced into the specific aims of the award
  • Grading across the whole award. This recognises achievements in Creative, Craft or Technical competence, academic and professional behaviours
  • Corresponding HND standalone award of 15 credits.
